Associate Professor Gary Richardson  - Chair Foundation 49

Gary is the Director of the Cabrini Academic Haematology and Oncology Service, and Associate Professor of Medicine, Monash University. He is also President of the Private Cancer Physicians of Australia, and Deputy Chairman, Medical Oncology Group of Australia.  Gary has extensively published in the field of lung cancer and is currently principal investigator of fourteen clinical trials spanning the fields of breast, ovarian, lung and colorectal cancers. Gary has been the Chair of Foundation 49 since its inception in 2001.

John Allen

John has broad-ranging experience in the not for profit sector as a professional fundraiser spanning 24 years. He has worked for agencies covering animal welfare, health, youth welfare, education and the environment. These areas reflect his personal interests believing that a fundraising professional can be more effective when one has a genuine interest in the cause. John has a Batchelor of Business (Marketing) and is a Fellow of the Fundraising Institute Australia. He is a past President of the Fundraising Institute Australia (Victoria) and also served six years as a board member of the national body. He was awarded the Arthur Venn Award for Excellence in Fundraising by the Institute in 2006 for “his outstanding contribution to fundraising in Victoria”.

Robyn Charlwood

Robyn has worked in the not for profit sector for 30 years. She is currently working as a consultant for ANZ Trustees, Philanthropy Partners. Prior to this role she was the Chief Executive Officer of the National Heart Foundation of Australia (Victorian Division). Robyn’s background is in public health, in particular, public health nutrition.  She trained originally as a dietician and has worked in the public hospital and university sectors. Robyn is a Fellow of Leadership Victoria, having undertaken the Williamson Community Leadership Program.

Nicole Donegan

Nicole is a professional marketer and business growth adviser with twenty years experience in business to business and professional services marketing. Nicole is Director, StrategyCo, has a Bachelor of Commerce from Melbourne University, is an Associate member of the Market and Social Research Society (AMSRS), is on the Boards of Optovision Ltd and Specsavers Eastland, and has been invited to be a judge for the City of Melbourne’s ‘Melbourne Awards’ for the last four  years.

Dr David Grodski

David is a GP with an ongoing interest in men’s health. He worked from 1972 – 1986 at the New Street Medical Centre Brighton, and was also the Director of the Brighton Community Care Centre (A branch of Southern Memorial Hospital). David has been a member of the Rotary Club of Brighton for 25 years, being its Club President in the 100th year of Rotary, (2004/2005). The Club’s theme promoted men’s health and the club ran the Seagull race that raised $100,000 for Foundation 49. Until recently David has been a Board Member of the Haven Foundation, which provides quality residential care to young Australians challenged by mental illness.

Sue James

Sue is the Director, Cabrini Foundation. She is responsible for the strategic development of the Foundation’s philanthropic and fundraising activities on behalf of Cabrini Health. Sue has worked in the not-for-profit sector in both fundraising and marketing roles. She is a Fellow of the Fundraising Institute of Australia and is committed to the professional development of fundraisers.

Associate Professor Peter Lowthian

Peter is the Executive Director of the Cabrini Institute, which has responsibility for the oversight of clinical education, research and health promotion across Cabrini Health. He is a rheumatologist and a graduate of Monash University. He was previously the Director of Clinical Services and Medical Director at Cedar Court Rehabilitation Hospital in Camberwell.

Associate Professor Bernard Marshall

Bernard is the Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) in the faculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing and Behavioural Sciences and at Deakin University in Melbourne. This position involves all matters of academic relevance at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with a major focus on quality improvement and effective teaching and learning practice. He has worked in the Department of School Education as a Curriculum Policy Officer, and as a senior Project Officer with the Victorian Occupational and Safety Commission. Bernard has also had vast experience in health promotion research and consultancy over many years, and published many articles, books and book chapters.

Stephen Mead

Stephen is currently General Counsel for Maxis Communications. He was previously a mergers and acquisitions partner of leading law firm, Mallesons Stephen Jaques.  Stephen acts for some of Australia’s largest companies.  He has extensive international experience having lived in Hong Kong and acted on transactions not just in Australia but also throughout Asia.  Stephen is especially committed to the advancement of men’s health issues and counts his work for Foundation 49 as amongst the most satisfying things he does.

Dr Peter Wirth

Peter is an emergency physician with experience in several public and private emergency departments in Victoria and interstate. Peter has been heading teams of doctors, nurses and podiatrists to Fiji for the past 8 years to assist with training and system improvement. Through his experience, and seeing the end result of problems with men’s health through preventable presentations in emergency departments, Peter was attracted to the work done by Foundation 49, and is keen to support the organisation.

Professor David Clarke

David works as a consultation-liaison (C-L) psychiatrist – a discipline at the interface of medicine and psychiatry. His research has been in the study of the nature of depression and demoralization in physical illness, especially chronic and life threatening illness. He is Clinical Director of General Hospital and Primary Care Psychiatry at Southern Health (Monash Medical Centre) and Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. He is also Research Advisor to beyondblue: the national depression initiative, chair of the Psycho-Oncology Research Committee of the Cancer Council of Victoria, and chair of the C-L section of RANZCP (Vic Branch).

Dr Ian Denham

Ian trained in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology. For the last 20 years Ian has been working in the field of Sexual Health, in the public and private sector and is currently involved in clinical work, research supervision and as Head of a Communicable Diseases Service.

Dr Ron Dick

Ron is a cardiologist and is currently the Director of Cardiology at Epworth Medical Centre. He is also Chairman of the Medical Advisory Council to the Epworth HealthCare Group and a Director of the Board of Management at the Epworth HealthCare Group. He trained at Prince Henry’s Hospital in Melbourne and the Royal Perth Hospital. Ron also trained in Interventional Cardiology in the USA, and is currently actively engaged in the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Associate Professor David Fonda

David is the former Director of Aged Care at Bayside Health and now a Consultant Geriatrician at Cabrini Health. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Monash University and is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research. Recent work has focused on various aspects of dementia, and reducing falls and serious injuries in hospitalized patients. Professor Fonda has chaired various national and international groups related to incontinence including the section on the elderly for the W.H.O. International Consultation on Incontinence from 1998 to 2004.

Associate Professor Doug Lording

Doug is an Endocrinologist and Andrologist in practice at Cabrini Health. He has worked in male health for over 30 years, particularly in relation to hormonal and sexual medicine. He is a board member of Andrology Australia and an Adjunct Professor of medicine at Monash University. Doug has been associated with Foundation 49 since its inception in 2001.

Mr Daniel Moon

Daniel is a urologist with a specific interest in laparoscopic and robotic surgery, in particular for prostate and kidney cancer.  Formal urological training in Melbourne was followed by a UK-based laparoscopic fellowship.  Since returning in 2006, he has performed over 600 major laparoscopic and robotic procedures, publishing the first Australian laparoscopic radical prostatectomy series in 2008, and performing the first Australian robotic-assisted bladder removal in 2009.    Daniel has appointments at Royal Melbourne, Cabrini, and Epworth hospitals, is on the Awareness and Education committee of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, and also convenes the biannual National Kidney and Bladder Cancer symposium. Additional areas of expertise include urological prostheses for male incontinence and erectile dysfunction.

Dr David Oberklaid

David has had over 25 years experience in general practice. He is a principal in a large multi-disciplinary practice in inner Melbourne. The practice provides comprehensive men’s health checks for its general practice patients and also provides work-based health checks for fire-fighters working with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade. In addition to his special interest in men’s health, David has an interest in quality issues in general practice and has been a GP surveyor for 10 years.

Dr James Shaw

James is a cardiologist with a specific interest in the management of coronary and non coronary vascular disease. He completed his undergraduate training at the University of Melbourne and basic medical training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. On completion of his PhD he spent 2.5 years in Boston training in interventional cardiology and now holds appointments at the Alfred Hospital, Baker Heart Research Institute and Cabrini Health.
