Men’s Health Week Community Grants 2007!

Following is a list of the successful grant recipents for the 2007 Foundation 49 International Men’s Health Week Community Grants.

It was extremely encouraging to see so many innovative ideas to help raise awareness for men’s health in Austalia !

  • Foundation 49 Reconciliation Football Match to promote physical fitness of prisioners on June 14th. (SA)
  • Nutrition for Blokes – Accredited Practising Dietitian to speak at seminar at the National Press Club on June 14th.(ACT)
  • ‘Talking Tackle’ men’s health evening held at the Scamander Beach Resort on 30th May, 07 (TAS)
  • ‘The Virtual Shed’ men’s health evening including development of a ‘tool box’ for health.(VIC)
  • Men’s Health Breakfast in a community setting in Warracknabeal includes a healthy breakfast and show bag containing information on men’s health.(VIC)
  • Development of a directory and information pack in Croatian for men’s health week (VIC)
  • ‘Promoting health awareness to Sudanese Men’ offering 10 health education sessions in conjunction with their workplace, CRF meat works.(VIC)
  • Mullabo Men on the Move.  Aboriginal men’s drop in centre in Bankstown to conduct health checks, sessions with a dietation, sessions on physical fitness as well as ongoing support.(NSW)
  • A day of social cricket and tennis and men’s health information including health checks.
  • ‘The Pedometer Challenge’ promoting health lifestyle behaviours to Aboriginal men. (NSW)
  • Father Son Breakfasts at Kindergartens promoting the messages of healthy eating and good role modelling in nutrition and building family links.(VIC)
  • Men’s Health Night including local GP, men’s health nurse, counsellor and light entertainment.(VIC)
  • Men’s Health Forum and game of lawn bowls featuring Peter Strange, Bendigo Men’s Health Nurse.(VIC)
  • Men’s Health Evening covering diabetes, prostate conditions and preventative health actions. Speakers include Merv Hughes, local GP, Andrology Australia and diabetes expert.(VIC)
  • Pit Stop at the Yarram Cattle Sale Yards on June 8th including development of a resource kit.
  • Workplace Health Resource manual with ideas on how to implement health promoting activities in the workplace.(VIC)
  • Men in the Shed Night. A men only night focussing on men’s health issues and annual health checks.(VIC)
  • ‘Bring a Mate’ Men’s Health Information Sessions in Bundaberg, Gin Gin, Childers & Woodgate
  • Men’s Health afternoon for older men living in high rise buildings in Kensington & Flemington(VIC)
  • A Wagga Older Men’s Health Forum promoting physical activities for men over 50.(NSW)
  • Men’s Night Out including local talented men providing entertainment and music, and a GP providing health information through the use of images and cartoons.(TAS)
  • Men’s Health Three Day Event – ‘Men’s What?’ Motorcycle Show and exhibition alongside ‘Pit Stop’ Program providing health checks. (VIC)
