The Decades of Life model of men's health recognises that men of different ages have different health concerns including impotence, heart disease, prostate, diabetes, obesity and more. For example, younger men face a high risk of injury from motor vehicle accidents, while for older men diseases such as prostate cancer and heart disease are of greater concern.
The information on this website allows men to focus on the aspects of their health that are of greatest concern to them. Men's health is also a concern for women – who play a vital role in the health of their fathers, husbands, sons and brothers.
Good questions for a man to ask are: - What risks are the most significant for a man of my age?
- What are the signs and symptoms of the illnesses that I might suffer from?
- What tests should I have at a given age to ensure that I have a 'clean bill of health' or, that I can catch any illnesses early when their chances of a full recovery are best?
- What else can I do for myself that will reduce the risk of illness and improve the chances of full recovery?
This website provides the resources to answer questions for the main illnesses that afflict men, and presents the most relevant information for men in your decade of life: - Health Information – Resources on heart health and cancer, as well as mental and sexual health;
- Health Checks – Information on specific tests to identify the main illnesses that affect men, plus the age at which it becomes wise to consider these tests;
- Encyclopaedia – A searchable database of information covering all aspects of health, from aspirin and alcohol to zinc and Zoloft;
- Lifestyle – A guide to self-care strategies that will help improve your health, including tips for quitting smoking, healthy eating and a more active lifestyle.
We'll also update you on the latest trends in better health via our regular emailed newsletter.
In short, we aim to improve the health of all Australian men. |
