Men's Health Business Breakfast, Wednesday 14 June
The Foundation 49: Men’s Health Business Breakfast on Wednesday 14 June was a resounding success.
Despite being a cold Melbourne Winter day, over 200 men and women attended and the sharp wit of comedian Richard Stubbs soon warmed everyone up - laughter resonated throughout the level 17 ballroom.
The Breakfast is an annual fundraising event for Foundation 49; the aim is to raise awareness of the importance of Men’s Health and encourage men to have a regular health check.
Thank you to Cabrini Health who were the Gold Sponsor and Presenting Partner, and to our supporters, partners and individuals for attending this year.
During the Breakfast, we launched the new Foundation 49 initiative ‘The Man Test’, a quick 15 question quiz designed to start the 'health conversation' with men. Upon completing The Man Test, you are provided with a super easy checklist to make your next doctor's appointment a breeze, and plenty of tips relevant to your Decade of Life to keep you fighting fit. We encourage all men to take The Man Test and for a limited time, there is an added bonus - a chance to win one of two $1000 Bunnings vouchers. Click here to Take The Man Test.
The Keynote Speaker at the event was champion swimmer Geoff Huegill who talked about his journey to the top of elite swimming, competing at the Olympic, Commonwealth and World championships, and the problems he encountered afterwards. As he pointed out in his analogy about mountain climbers and Everest, everyone focuses on getting to the top, but most deaths occur on the way down. His talked about his personal experience with ‘coming off the rails’ and how he suddenly realised that he had to make major changes in his life to get back on track - an inspiring talk about taking control of your life and overcoming the odds.
Melbourne running coach Chris White spoke about the My 17 Challenge, encouraging people to try to set a fitness goal for 2017. In 2017, Chris is undertaking 17 marathons and raising $17,000 to support the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. He's 8 marathons down - well done Chris!
